Lessons & Programs

Group Lesson

Group lessons are perfect for getting you started or building on your existing skills. Our highly experienced instructors will help you improve your technique and progress to the level you want. Choose from either an AM/PM lesson or a full day of lessons.


  • Two lessons per day.
  • Adult lessons are 1:50 hours in duration and start daily at 10:20am and 2pm.
  • Child Lessons (6-17) are 2:30 hours duration and start daily at 10am and 1:30pm.
  • 16 and 17 year olds can join the Adult lessons if they prefer but these will not include lunch. 
  • Please arrive at the lessons area at least 15 minutes before your lesson starts. No need to book a specific time.
  • Open to all ability levels.
  • Please note that small lesson groups of less than 3 people will receive reduced lessons times of one hour per lesson.

Private Lesson

Want to learn the basics or give the terrain park a shot? We have highly trained coaches dedicated to giving you a personalised coaching experience to fast track your progress. A dedicated coach that can give you the insider’s perspective on the mountain and also show you the best terrain to suit your abilities. 

  • Choose from full day or three hour private ski and snowboard lessons.
  • Go for a one-on-one setting or with a group of up to six of your friends or family.
  • All private ski or snowboard lessons have priority lift access (skip the queue). 
  • Available for all ability levels.
  • We also offer private telemark and adaptive lessons.
  • 6 hours (Full Day, for 1-6 people) 9:20am.
  • 3 hours (Half Day, for 1-6 people) 9:20am/1:00pm.

Kea Club

Child Lesson Package Age: 5-17

Our kids group lesson packages combines fun, education and on mountain adventure! Our experienced instructors can help kids of all ability levels build confidence on snow and improve their skiing or snowboarding abilities.


  • Ski lessons available from 5 years of age.
  • Snowboard lessons available from 7 years of age.


  • Lift Pass.
  • Lessons (2x 2.5 hour lessons).
  • Morning lessons start at 10:00am and afternoon lessons start at 1:30pm. Please arrive 15 minutes before your lessons starts.
  • Recreational ski or snowboard equipment hire (skis or snowboard, boots and poles - helmet and clothing can be added on for additional cost).
  • Lunch.
  • Open to all ability levels.
  • Group lessons have a maximum number for safety reasons and optimal learning.

You will need to collect your lift pass and rentals (available from 9am) before arriving at the lessons area. Paper tickets for these lessons are required and guests need one before coming to join. Please allow plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

  • A full day consists of two group lessons - 2.5 hours in length and a supervised lunch with the instructor.
  • Lessons begin at 10:00am and 1:30pm every day and do not need to be reserved.
  • Group lessons have a maximum number for safety reasons and optimal learning.
  • Open to all ability levels.

Important information:

  • To give families flexibility, Kea Club cannot be reserved. To avoid disappointment, please check-in early with Guest Services to pick up your MyPass in advance and arrive at the lesson area 15 minutes prior to the start of the program: i.e. at 9:45am.
  • Please be aware that all kids’ lessons have a maximum group number for safety and optimal learning.
  • If weather doesn’t permit lessons, we provide indoor entertainment.

Optional Drop-off add-on:

We have a convenient drop-off service in the base building to accommodate children from 9am where our friendly staff take your kids through rentals and on to Kea Club.

Mini Kea

Age: 4 - 5 years

A full day package for our youngest guests with regular breaks from skiing to allow kids to get used to their new environment. The day will be split between skiing, playing inside and outside in the snow. 


  • Mini Kea has a drop off time: 9am
  • From drop off we will take your kids through the rentals process and make sure everyone is set for the day on the slopes.
  • Includes ski lessons.
  • Includes a supervised lunch.
  • Includes equipment rental (skis, boots, poles, helmet).
  • Finishes at 4pm daily.

This program is primarily a ski lesson so we will prioritise learning to ski. If you are looking for a day care facility without skiing please check out Skiwiland at Coronet Peak.

Please note:

  • Group lessons have a maximum number for safety reasons and optimal learning.
  • Mini Kea should be booked in advance online, through our call centre or at one of our snow centres in Queenstown.
  • Open to all ability levels, if your child is of a higher level they may join in with a regular “kea club” lesson.
  • Children in Mini Kea will only be permitted to Ski, as snowboarding has an age limit of 7 years and above.

Telemark Lesson

Discover and explore one of the most elegant and historic winter sport disciplines with Telemarking. Free the heels – Free the mind and learn new skills.

We offer Telemark private lessons by arrangement for all abilities. Our highly personalised clinics focus on specific goals for Telemarking.

  • Choose from full day or three hour private ski and snowboard lessons.
  • Go for a one-on-one setting or with a group of up to six of your friends or family.
  • Multi-person private lessons are for people of similar abilities.
  • All private ski or snowboard lessons have priority lift access (skip the queue).

Women's Ski Sessions

Volkl Ski Queens

Volkl Ski Queens is a one-day camp held at The Remarkables. It provides a friendly and supportive environment for women skiers to progress with their freestyle skills and have fun at the same time!

The aim is to make women feel comfortable and confident in the terrain park while at the same time, being able to push the limits of their progression and make friends with other women of similar ability. No freestyle experience is needed; the camp suits all freestyle abilities.

The camp includes:

  • Return bus transport from downtown Queenstown.
  • Light breakfast and a glass of bubbly.
  • Approximately five hours of group freestyle coaching.
  • Gourmet lunch.

You must be 18 years old to participate and need to have a valid lift pass to participate.

Burton Snowbroads

From first time park riders to those looking to improve their tricks on the big line, this one day camp suits all freestyle abilities! Designed to make women feel comfortable and confident in the terrain park; helping push their limits and progress whilst making friends with other women that ride a similar ability.

The camp includes:

  • Return bus transport from the Queenstown Snow Centre.
  • Light breakfast and a glass of bubbly.
  • Gourmet lunch.
  • Approximately five hours of group freestyle coaching

  • You must be at least 18 years to participate.
  • You will need to have or purchase a valid lift pass to participate which is not included.
  • Suitable for levels 3-6. 



Adaptive Program

The Remarkables Adaptive Program has qualified instructors, specialised adaptive equipment and dedicated volunteers to get you where you want to go. We support adults and children with any disability – physical, cognitive, or sensory.


  • Private lessons are available for one on one coaching with some of the most highly qualified adaptive instructors in the country.
  • Adaptive group lessons may be arranged with prior communication through the Adaptive Program Coordinator.
  • We have a wonderful team of dedicated volunteers to make your time at The Remarkables even more enjoyable. Volunteers can assist you both during and outside of lesson time in a variety of roles.
  • Volunteer support is provided free of charge, but may be subject to availability and advance notice is required.


  • The Remarkables has a comprehensive range of modern adaptive equipment from sit skis to outriggers.
  • Equipment is generally only available for rental from The Remarkables, however equipment may be available for independent skiers and riders using Coronet Peak. 48 hours’ notice is required.


  • The Remarkables offers members of Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand a 50% discount on lift pass products and adaptive equipment rental, as well as 40% off our regular private lesson pricing.

The Remarkables Snowsports Academy

Age: 6 - 17 years

The Remarkables Snowsports Academy (RSSA) provides a supportive, fun and progressive development environment for freestyle snow sports athletes. We focus on developing children aged 6 to 18 years, recognising the potential of each individual and the strength of an inclusive culture that supports athletes on and beyond the mountain.

The Remarkables Snowsports Academy (RSSA) is a joint initiative between The Remarkables Ski Area and the Remarkables Snowsports Academy club committee.

Rookie Instructor Apprenticeship Program

How much do you love it, live it and want to share it?

Our Rookie Instructor Programme is NZSki’s instructor apprenticeship during which you will experience ski and/or snowboard instructor training of the highest quality.

Designed for New Zealand or Australian skiers or snowboarders over the age of 17 who are inspired to pathway into becoming a snowsports instructor.

We are looking for individuals committed to sharing their passion for our mountains through our shared purpose of “Love it, Live it, Share it”.

Successful applicants will have an opportunity to join one of the most experienced Snowsports Schools in New Zealand.

Selection Process:

Candidates will participate in a one day ‘interview’. At the end of the day, successful candidates will be offered a position with NZSki in one of our Snowsports Schools as an Apprentice Instructor.

Selection criteria:

We are looking for necessary skills and attributes demonstrated by professional instructors including appearance, teamwork, attitude, punctuality and highly effective communication.

Candidates must be at least 17 years of age to apply.

Included in the course fee is in-house training and development as well as the fee for the New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance (NZSIA and SBINZ) Level One” exam. Successful ‘rookies’ are required to take the “Level One” exam shortly after the interview day, prior to starting any teaching. We are committed to providing the best training in order to ensure you every success in your exams and be able to offer you the opportunity to teach with us at peak times. 2019 Applications:

  • Price: $999 and we will be in touch shortly with payment information for applicants.
  • Applications close Friday 31st of May 2019, 5pm.
  • On snow interview day is Saturday 8th June 2019 at The Remarkables. Meeting point is Guest Services desk on ground floor at 10am.

What to bring/have for the on-snow interview: Lift pass available at 50% discount for the try­-out day. Please bring your ski/board gear and be ready to ski or ride at 10am.

The NZSki rookie programme includes:

  • NZSIA/SBINZ membership fee which is refundable if not selected into the programme.
  • NZSIA/SBINZ Level One exam fee which is refundable if not selected into the programme.
  • NZSki will provide training, staff ID and a season pass to successful apprentice instructors.

Work is not guaranteed and fluctuates due to the nature of our business; successful apprentice instructors will need enough funds to support themselves through the season and have accommodation plans.

When we are not able to provide work, we are committed to providing the best training in order to make you successful during further exams and while teaching.

We have an expectation that successful apprentices will continue to take the NZSIA/SBINZ Level Two exams (this will be at their own expense) during the 2019 winter season.

SITCo started in 2002 at Coronet Peak and since then it has seen many keen skiers and snowboarders come through their programmes and go on to snowsports adventures all round the world. SITCo offer courses of different lengths for different abilities, working with Coronet Peak & The Remarkables Snowsport Schools SITCo also offer Intership programs. SITCo is ran by two of Coronet Peaks top trainers. Colin and Gavin will be sure to look after you.

Snow Trainers was founded in Queenstown in 2003 with the aim of providing the BEST ski and snowboard training possible - which is why we work with the leading snowsports school in the Southern Hemisphere! We offer many different courses and internships, and can tailor courses to suit your needs. As well as fantastic training we also organise lots of off-snow activities to make sure you have an amazing winter experience you will never forget!

EA Ski and Snowboard partner with NZSki to provide instructor internships and training courses in both Queenstown resorts and also at Mt Hutt. EA provide support all the way through your journey to becoming an instructor, from helping you chose the right program to looking for jobs in the future around the world. Third party instructing and mountain guiding:

All instructing and guiding at The Remarkables is restricted to the instructors of The Remarkables Snow Sports School. 

All NZSki mountains including The Remarkables hold an exclusive commercial operation concession from the Department of Conservation. Further action may be taken with anyone who is found to be instructing/guiding without written permission.
