Guide To Getting Up Remarkables

Updates for 2024

Simplifying Your Path to Powder

The Remarkables is one of New Zealand’s most popular ski areas and we're making a few adjustments this year to help get everyone to the snow as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Importantly, we are on a journey to become carbon neutral by 2030 and part of this includes reducing the number of vehicles on our road. So you can help us out through carpooling and using the Ski Bus.

Carparking is a key constraint for us, so bus transport, carpooling and Ridesharing is the name of the game, with that in mind we've made a few changes for this season:

  • We’ve added more 4WD buses to our fleet.
  • Season Pass holders now get $10 discount on Return Ski Bus Passes to The Remarkables from Frankton Bus Shelter or to Coronet Peak from Duke St.
  • As per last season, all seats on our Ski Buses must be booked in advance.
  • We've added more capacity to our free carpark shuttles and made some operational changes for more efficient shuttling from carparks to the base building.

Carpool Priority Days:

When we know it's going to be a big day at Remarks it will be a ‘Carpool Priority Day’.

Carpool Priority Days are likely on powder days and weekends, and we will communicate them on our website the day before.

This season the period of the Australian and New Zealand school holidays, Saturday 29 June to Sunday 21 July, will all be Carpool Priority Days at The Remarkables. Additional days will be communicated on the Snow Report on our website.

Here is how traffic will be managed on Carpool Priority Days.

  • Only vehicles with four or more occupants will be able to park in our top Carparks 1-3, so be sure to fill up your vehicle with friends and whanau or pickup Ride-sharers at the bottom of the road.
  • Vehicles with less than four occupants will be parked at Carpark 4 (1.5km from the base building), from where our free shuttles will run to the base building from 7:30am.
  • We may run shuttles from Carparks 1-3, so vehicles parking there can use our Drop Zone first to take people and equipment to the top.
  • If we do reach carpark capacity and have to close the road we will update our Snow Report as soon as possible, but do note that booked buses will still run up the road and vehicles will have the option to park in Carpark 5 from where limited shuttles will run mid-morning and late afternoon.
  • The access road will open after our early staff bus is on its way up the hill at approximately 6:45am (vehicles before this will be held in order of arrival at Carpark 5, at 2km). This enables us to get the mountain ready for everyone’s arrival.
  • Guest Services and Rentals will be open from 7:30am, and the restaurant from 7:45am for coffee and 8am for food - including our all-new big breakfast.

Self Service Kiosks

  • This year we also have self-serve kiosks in the main entrance for picking up your MyPass Cards (your ticket to the mountain) if you don't already have them from previous years.
  • Purchase online before you arrive and have your e-receipt ready on your phone to scan and print your MyPass Cards, then head straight to the lifts!

Top Tips

  • Pop along to our Queenstown Snow Centre in The Station Building at 25 Shotover St prior to the days you’re going up the mountain. Visit our Guest Services team and get all set for your time on the snow, we also have Self Service Kiosks.
  • Booked rentals? We recommend you head visit our rentals team at the Queenstown Snow Centre after 4pm the day prior to heading up the mountain. Get fitted and have your gear ready before you even get on the mountain (plus you'll skip the rentals queue on the mountain).
  • Check the Snow Report regularly the day before and on the morning you're heading up the mountain. We update this regularly with road and carpark status updates along with mountain conditions.

Ride Sharing:

  • Help us reduce emissions and get everyone up the mountain for more freedom by car pooling. We recommend the Snow Riders App for coordinating ride sharing.

FAQs

How can I find updates about the access road?

To find out about daily updates on the road conditions, car park availability and whether snow chains are required, check out the Snow Report on our website.

Can I drop my ski gear/family at the top?

Our drop-off zone is a designated area for you to get your gear right to the top before parking your vehicle. Simply let our car park crew know you’re planning to swing by the drop-off area and we’ll direct you the right way.

Once you've dropped your friends and whanua off outside the base building, you can drive back down to one of our carparks and either walk up the the base building or catch the free carpark shuttle.

Does this apply to Coronet Peak?

No. Whilst Coronet Peak may initiate Carpool Priority Days during the season, they may be on different dates and have different conditions to The Remarkables.

Carpool Priority Days will always be communicated on the Snow Report. Please visit the Coronet Peak Snow Report for daily updates on access, car park and road conditions.

Please visit the Coronet Peak Getting Here page for information on accessing the mountain.
